While there seem temporarily to be enough hamsters on the wheels running my wifi internet connection, I thought I'd post. :>

On Friday HBO sent me screeners of the first five episodes of "Generation Kill," Lee Tergesen's new miniseries that premiers in July, along with the book the series is based on. While the book isn't something I'd normally pick for my reading material. It's a non-fiction account of the first months of the Iraq war told by a Rolling Stone magazine writer who was embedded with the military. Lee plays Evan "Scribe" Wright, the Rolling Stone writer. The book's cover features a picture of the cast on the front, and front and center is Lee.

I do plan to read the book in-depth, but right now I'm skimming it as research for the review and interview I'm doing. The miniseries so far (I've watched the first 3 eps so far. Hope to get to the other 2 tonight or tomorrow) is extremely well made. It does a great job of making you feel like you're there with the soldiers. And it also makes you wonder what the HELL those soldiers were thinking when they signed on to the military. Of course, a lot of them probably never suspected they'd end up in a war when they joined the military. Then came George W. Bush.

On another subject, I want to wish [info]colleendetroit and anyone else whose birthday I missed a VERY HAPPY (if late) BIRTHDAY! 0:)

Having dodgy net access and being busy with IRL stuff has kept me out of the loop on so very many things lately, so I hope everyone who's had a birthday recently had a really kick-ass one! :)

Since I might not get to post before the 4th, I also want to wish everyone on my flist a happy 4th of July, too. I was asked by my city's special events department to be a judge for our 4th parade this year. So I'm hoping I'll get some really good pix of the parade. Gatlinburg holds the nation's first 4th of July parade each year. It's starts at 12:01 a.m. on the 4th. We get between 100,000 and 300,000 tourists each year to view it. Fortunately, I live close by the parade route, because it takes hours to drive just a couple of miles after (and before) the parade.

Maybe someday Lee Tergesen will be the parade's Grand Marshal. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? ;)

I'm off to throw another hamster on the wheel and see if I can surf the net a bit. ;)
